Tomari Iyumachi

Tomari Iyumachi is the direct sales fish market in Naha with tuna specialty vendors from the Okinawa Fishing Cooperative and mozuku vendors in addition to wholesalers. There is even a processing plant screened with glass for viewing. The daily landing averages 20 tons and reaches as much as 50 tons on a good catch, of which about 70% is tuna.

The recommendations are tuna sashimi and tuna bowl. The type of tuna varies by season, and if you want the tuna in season, this is the best place to get it.

Awase Fishing Port (Payao Direct Sales Market)

Fresh colorful fish caught near the coast of Okinawa line the Payao Direct Sales Market located in the Awase Fishing Port, a popular fish market among tourists from overseas. You can also eat fresh fish that just landed at the adjoining food court. There is a wide range of menu items with plenty of seafood including sea urchin bowl, butter grilled imaiyu (fresh fish), sushi set made on the spot, and freshly fried tempura. The recommendation is the spiny lobster. It is a little pricey, but places that cook top quality spiny lobster on the spot are hard to come by, so it will surely be a dish of satisfaction.

Itoman Fishing Cooperative Osakana Center

The direct sales fish market, Osakana Center, at the road station in the fishing town of Itoman has 11 stores and sells fish auctioned that morning at the Itoman Fishing Port as well as processed food and deli food. They have many reasonably priced items in large portions such as sushi made on the spot and fried fish, which can be taken to go or eaten in the eat-in area. They also have raw oysters and cod milt as well as shrimp and tuna cutlets precooked and served in a popular buffet style where they can be purchased and eaten right away. Prices range between 100 yen and 300 yen per item, offering a chance to compare and enjoy different food affordably.

Ojima Imaiyu Market

About a 40-minute drive from Naha Airport, at Imaiyu Market on Ojima, a driving spot in Southern Okinawa, you can find lines of fresh fish caught near the coast that you can also sample.
They offer plenty of options for food you can eat on the spot, such as sashimi, seafood bowl, and sushi, as well as vegetables and fruits farmed pesticide-free or with reduced pesticides in Nanjo.
The recommendation at Imaiyu Market is the seafood bowl. It is quite a deal with several different seafood, fresh off the boat, laid out over vinegared rice. At the tempura shops in the area that draw long lines, the seaweed tempura using mozuku and asa collected locally are recommended. It has become a popular spot among locals.
