It is said that there are a huge number of karate enthusiasts around the world. Karate is said to have originated in Okinawa, and its history goes back to the era of the Ryukyu Kingdom.
October 25 is designated as Karate Day, when karate enthusiasts respect their predecessors, who created and developed karate, reaffirm shurei-no kokoro (the spirit of courtesy) as a core tenet of karate, and perform a dedicatory demonstration at Shurei Hall (a special dojo) of the Okinawa Karate Kaikan to inform the world of Karate Day and of Okinawa as the place of origin of karate. They also hold the Karate Day Anniversary Demonstration Festival on Kokusa Street in Naha.
Viewing will be held online this year.
