Okiten is Okinawa Prefecture's largest comprehensive art exhibition, with around 30,000 visitors each year. The exhibition started as a way of developing postwar Okinawan artistic culture. Visitors can now view a diverse range of art and craft work in seven categories and 12 genres, consisting of painting, printmaking, sculpture, graphic design, calligraphy, photography and crafts (pottery, lacquer ware, dyeing, weaving, glass ware and wood work). Okiten also offers visitor-participation type events, hands-on workshops, and explanations of artwork, making it fun for the whole family.
